Privacy Policy

Who we are

Freefall (the “App”) is a freediving logbook and apnea-training app for iPhone. This policy explains how the App handles your information. It is short because Freefall collects almost nothing: we run no servers, and the only thing the App sends is anonymous usage statistics.

What we collect

Nothing about you. There is no account to create, no sign-up, no email address and no profile. Your dives, spots, gear and apnea sessions are never transmitted to us or to anyone else.

The App does send anonymous usage statistics through TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service: which steps of onboarding were completed (including which of the fixed quiz answers was chosen), whether a first dive or training session was logged, and whether the upgrade screen was viewed or a purchase made. These signals contain no depths, times, spot names or locations, no buddy names or notes, and no account or advertising identifier; TelemetryDeck identifies an install only by a salted one-way hash generated on your device, so the statistics cannot be linked back to you. We use them only in aggregate to improve the App.

What stays on your device

Everything you enter in Freefall is stored locally on your iPhone:

• Your dives — date, discipline, depth, distance, dive and hold times, descent and hang times, water temperature, visibility, suit, weight, buddy, spot and notes.
• Your spots — name, map position, notes and conditions log (visibility, temperature, current, notes).
• Your gear — items, notes and service dates.
• Your apnea training — table results and your max breath-hold setting.
• Your settings (units, cues), onboarding progress and whether Freefall Pro is unlocked.

This information never leaves your device unless you export or share it yourself (see below). It is included in your normal device backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) under your own Apple Account and your own backup settings; we cannot access backups. Deleting a dive, spot or gear item removes it; deleting the App removes everything.

Location

Freefall asks for your location only if you tap Centre on my location while saving a spot, and only while the App is in use. It is used once to move the map to where you are; the spot is saved at the pin position you choose, on your device. Your location is never sent to us and is never tracked in the background. You can say no and place the pin by moving the map instead, and change the permission at any time in iOS Settings.

Maps

Maps in the App are provided by Apple (MapKit). To draw the map, your device requests map imagery for the area on screen from Apple, under Apple's Privacy Policy. Open in Maps hands the spot to Apple Maps. We receive nothing from either.

Notifications

If you set a service date on a piece of gear, Freefall asks permission to notify you and schedules a reminder on your device. It is a local notification: no push service or server is involved.

Apnea cues

Spoken cues during an apnea table are produced by the speech synthesiser built into iOS, on your device. Freefall does not use the microphone.

Exporting and sharing

The PDF logbook, the CSV file and the progression chart image are generated entirely on your device. When you share them, iOS hands the file to the app or person you choose (for example Mail, Messages or Files). What happens to it from there is governed by that app or service — we never receive a copy.

Purchases

Freefall Pro is a single one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Your purchase is verified on your device; no receipt is sent anywhere and we never see your payment details, billing address or Apple Account. Restoring a purchase asks Apple, not us.

Ratings and reviews

The App may occasionally ask whether you would like to rate it. That prompt is Apple's standard in-app review request and is shown, limited and handled by Apple; nothing about it reaches us.

Health data, iCloud sync and sharing

The current version of Freefall does not read or write Apple Health data and does not sync your logbook through iCloud or any other service. If a future version adds either, it will be optional, and this policy and the App's App Store privacy information will be updated before it ships.

Advertising, analytics and third-party software

Freefall contains no advertising, no crash-reporting service and no attribution or measurement software. Its only third-party software is the TelemetryDeck analytics library described above, which collects anonymous usage statistics only. We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), we do not track you across apps or websites, and there is no data broker relationship of any kind. Should this ever change, we will update this policy and the App's App Store privacy information before any such feature ships.

Children

Freefall is a logbook for a general audience of freedivers. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — the App collects only the anonymous usage statistics described above.

Your rights and choices

Because we hold no data that identifies you — the usage statistics are anonymous and cannot be linked to you — there is nothing for us to look up, export or erase on request. You remain in full control:

• Export your whole logbook as PDF or CSV from More → Export logbook.
• Delete any dive, spot or gear item inside the App, or delete the App to remove everything.
• Turn location and notification permissions off in iOS Settings.
• Manage device backups in iOS Settings under your Apple Account.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the App's App Store privacy information.
